I have a feeling that I will lose several friends this year without my choosing to do so.

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011Unacknowledged Populous: The Homeless and Beggars
Sunday, October 26th, 2008I am assuming safety by saying that most people who live in or near a metropolitan area have seen either a homeless person or a beggar at some point in the span of their past. However, I cannot safely suggest a generalized reason for how they arrive in said situation.
I am troubled by the many possibilities that I am aware of for how they have come to their current condition as I have yet to arrive at a single pleasant notion that would bring about such an end [state].
I know that many people feel that homeless people should not be afforded housing and food because they believe that the homeless should get jobs like everyone else. What happens when they can’t run off to get a job or when they do get an interview, they can’t get hired due to their lack of access to clothing and hygenic necessities? There are probably some people who are looking for a free ride. However, logically a person will not subject themselves to begging for scraps of income for the sake of not doing work; begging is not an easy job and it doesn’t produce the volume of earnings that our legends often proclaim.
If we change our view from looking at this situation like we are giving handouts and therefore cosigning this state of being to offering assistance to people who need help, we can potentially do these people and ourselves a favor by getting them off of the street and giving them tools to be more self-sufficient (few of us are actually 100% self-sufficient).
It is my belief that a person should not have to work to the point of bad knees and bloody knuckles to afford shelter and nourishment.
The $core
Saturday, October 18th, 2008This is a copy of a note that I posted on facebook. Since it went over pretty well, I decided to duplicate it here.
I’m sitting here in my habitat and thinking how oddly humanity is distributed. Suddenly, after years of contemplation I realized that there is something to be said of money. I do not believe that “money is the root of all evil” as many people misquote the Bible. It actually says that “the love of money is the root of all evil”. I’ll leave this bit in the clouds for a few ticks.
It seems to me now that some people treat money as if it were a score. “Some people”. Something seems to happen after people become “well off”; we manage to not find satisfaction. I’m not speaking of the desire to obtain a higher level of employment or increasing a skill set or output to better provide for one’s family. I am specifically considering the things that are motivated by greed. The points where we dampen the quality of life for a person or group of people so that we can eat the next highest grade of steak or whatever else we fancy.
