SDC2|Session 4: Data portability

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

3:30 – 4:30

Lead by Mark Scrimshire (@ekivemark).

With all of the personal records that exist in the world, there has to be a practical method of grouping the information according to the owner/user.

With options like OpenID and the Higgins Framework, this information could be more easily available. The popular concern with this is security of this information. This could be offset by implementing multifactor authentication.

Who ‘owns’ health records? Who is given access to this information? Who can have access to this information?

This was the only session where I participated verbally.

SDC2|Session 3: Best practices in building your online community

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

2:00 – 3:00

Like anything else, consider your audience. Go where they go an do what they do.

There needs to be a degree of moderation to ensure that user experiences aren’t dampened due to forms of abusive online behavior. Select responsible users from the community

Also, consider writing a version of the TOS in a more human, less legal matter to make it more approachable to a layperson (w/o law education) i.e. community guidelines.

The phrase one bad apple spoils the bunch comes in to play. Though, here a bad apple may cause the good of the bunch to find another basket.

SDC2|Discussion at the lunch table

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Lunch

I’m sitting at a table with Alan Grover and TJ Murphy during lunch. Apparently, the ‘military’ issued a statement saying that Twitter is a tool for terrorists. I’m not sure of the validity of this statement. I need to check on this.

~I’m at a social event but, not being particulary social.

SDC2|Session 2: Your Personal Brand- Why it's Important

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

12:00 – 1:00

Discussing practices of creating a brand.

Waaa!!! Got caught up in the discussion. I’m back.

Concept: Is it necessary to create two seperate brands (alter ego like Clark Kent/Superman) e.g. a professional brand and a personal brand?

SDC2|Session 1: Where's the $ and sense in social media?

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

10:30 – 12:00

We(they) are talking about monetisation of social media. It seems that many people are having issues where they want to provide a product or service but need to at minimum cover the cost of delivery. How can companies earn money without effectively deterring their potential user base by using them as cattle.

I didn’t start this post until nearly the end of the session. I’ll start the next post earlier during the session.

SocialDevCampEast Fall 2008

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

About 2 weeks ago I found out about this SocialDevCampEast session from @goldenlady. They are hosting a series of talks on various topics which are voted to fruition by attendees. I didn’t know what to expect as I didn’t do much reading on the site before hand.

I’m here now. Let’s see how this goes.
